Adoption

How adoption works

Every kitten we place goes through the same process — designed to make sure it's the right fit for you and for them.

Start your adoption application →
  1. 1. Fill out the adoption application

Start by completing our short online application. It helps us learn about your home, other pets, and what kind of kitten would be the best fit. Every adopter — new or returning — fills this out.

  2. 2. Application review

We'll review your application within a few days and reach out with any follow-up questions. Because we're volunteer-run, please allow us a little time to respond.

  3. 3. Meet & greet

Once approved, we'll set up a time for you to meet the kitten (or kittens) you're interested in. Meet & greets happen at the foster's home or a mutually agreed spot in the Houston area.

  4. 4. Adoption fee & contract

Our adoption fee helps cover vetting: age-appropriate vaccines, deworming, microchip, and spay/neuter when age-eligible. You'll sign a short adoption contract that confirms you'll keep your cat indoors, keep the microchip registered, and reach out to us first if you're ever unable to keep them.

  5. 5. Go-home day

You'll go home with your kitten's medical records, microchip info, and a starter supply of the food they're currently eating. We're always here for questions after adoption — you're joining the Tabby's family, not just picking up a pet.

Frequently asked

Do you adopt out single kittens?+

Kittens under about 6 months do best in pairs or in homes that already have a cat-friendly resident cat. If you're adopting a solo kitten and don't have another young cat at home, we'll usually recommend adopting a bonded pair so they can learn cat manners from each other.

How much is the adoption fee?+

Fees vary based on the age of the kitten and the vetting they've received. We'll confirm the exact amount when you apply for a specific kitten.

Do you adopt outside the Houston area?+

We primarily adopt within the greater Houston area so we can do in-person meet & greets and provide ongoing support. Reach out if you're farther out and we'll talk it through.

Are kittens spayed/neutered before going home?+

Yes when they're old enough. Kittens who go home before they're big enough for surgery leave with a spay/neuter voucher, and completing the surgery is part of the adoption contract.

What if it doesn't work out?+

Life happens. If you're ever unable to keep your cat, please reach out to us first — we take our adopted kittens back, no questions asked. They should never end up in a shelter.
